Angelo Hart, pianist, has always had a unique and expressive approach to his instrument. Angelo has spent personal time studying jazz legends such as Thelonius Monk, Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock, and Chick Corea; Also, studying great classsical musicians and composers like Debussy, Liszt and Chopin. Time spent with the great educators and musicians in Chicago, along with his natural innovative musicianship has molded him into the great musician that he is today. He approaches the piano with command and finesse, displaying a unique relationship and connection between the two of them.

Angelo recently has been exploring the intricacies of classical music and infusing them with his love of jazz. The marriage between classical and jazz has birthed a new and innovated musical movement that Angelo has began to explore; mixing classical/jazz improvisation with classical/jazz melody and harmony. This has lead him to explore the limitless possibilities of solo piano. His recent release, Improvisations, available on iTunes, showcases his intimate relationship between him and the piano and shows his quest for creativity.

Along with playing in various city’s, Angelo is preparing for an expansive piano project in 2014 as well as a solo piano tour in 2014/2015

the-damn-choir-1
The Damn Choir (www.reverbnation.com/thedamnchoir)
The Damn Choir’s use of guitar, cello, bass, vocals and drums, along with Gordon Robertson’s introspective lyrics, create songs that range from meandering and melancholic to pulsing and vengeful.
“You’re My Secret Called Fire” is the bands sophomore release (April of 2012) and was produced and recorded by Jamie Wagner at Strobe Recording in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood. The band has been playing some of Chicago’s best clubs (i.e. Links Hall, Schubas, The Hide Out, Empty Bottle) so don’t miss this one!

“The Damn Choir exhibits a compositional understanding that is so often absent in fledgling bands which sets them apart. If these acts continue to push themselves in this new direction, I think they could very well be signed in the next year.”
-The Vinyl District, May 2012

“Elegance. It’s the overwhelming quality that’s present in the music of The Damn Choir. Take the band’s lead single from their newest album, “Noah,” for example. An electric guitar line dances between the simple strumming of an acoustic rhythm.”
-Gaper’s Block, May 2012

wooden-wing

Wooden Wing (www.reverbnation.com/woodenwing)
With a California tang infused with a Wisconsin folk sensibility, Wooden Wing speaks with the woody hum sparking from the old Silvertone ax slung round the neck accompanied by electric guitar, synth elements, and vocal harmonies to remember. Where the road goes, no one knows. The ride is all that matters.

Brokeback

Doug BrokebackBROKEBACK (Thrill Jockey Records) originally began as a one-person affair by Douglas McCombs to create music in a more open and less structured environment than his other bands, Tortoise, Pullman, and Eleventh Dream Day. Brokeback’s most recent reincarnation includes Chris Hansen (Head of Skulls!) Pete Croke (Tight Phantomz) and Jim Elkington (The Zinks, The Horse’s Ha). Over the course of 5 records, Brokeback has been almost entirely Douglas’ vision. He handpicked for each record a number of guest musicians and collaborators such as Rob Mazurek, Tim Folijahn, Alan Licht, John McEntire and James McNew. While Field Recordings was full of simple melodies accented by a unique combination of twang and low tones, Morse Code was more of collaborative process including various members of Yo La Tengo, Calexico, Two Dollar Guitar, Stereolab, the Chicago Underground and Tortoise.

Electric Hawk: Official Record Release Show

Electric HawkELECTRIC HAWK is an instrumental power trio from Chicago. Guitarist Michael Burns, bassist Graham Mclachlan and drummer Noah Leger all met while working as the live band at Blue Man Group and discovered they had a mutual appreciation for all things rock. If you’ve been in Chicago for at least a little while then you already know that Leger is easily one of the best rock drummers in the city and along with Mclachlan, they combine for a impressive rhythm section. Michael Burns has an arsenal of guitar tones with a style both rhythmic and atmospheric. The songs are complex and technical hard rockin’ instrumentals with a metallic edge. They’ve recently opened for Helmet and Fu Manchu.

Matt Campbell

Matt Campbell

Matt Campbell is a songwriter steeped in the tradition of the American Troubadour. Originally from Colorado, Campbell’s restless spirit has led him from the concrete canyons of New York City to the seaside cliffs of California, with a few stops in between. Now in Chicago, he continues to write and record original music.

Matt Campbell’s newest album release was mixed and recorded in two sessions at Strobe Recording in Chicago; Miles Apart is a five song suite about the challenge of new beginnings and the faith to forge ahead. Matt Campbell’s affinity for rich imagery and melody are on full display, as the stripped down sound highlights his distinct voice and lyrics. Miles Apart represents Campbell’s first effort solely produced in Chicago, and the second release from The Chicago Talking Machine Co. label.

Matt Campbell has opened for Del McCoury, The Subdudes, Martin Sexton, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Jason Boland, Corb Lund, Split Lip Rayfield and many more…
